Celebrating National Science Week ’24

National Science Week celebrates science and technology with events for all ages staged around Australia. Children’s Discovery delivered out-of-the-box and bespoke activities throughout the week culminating in tabletop science and science busking at The Australian Museum Sydney Science Trail event.
Hornsby and Kogarah Big Bang Science Workshops
Hornsby Library hosted Children’s Discovery’s Illuminated Geometry workshop with participants exploring geometry in nature and applying geometric principles to construct lanterns from paper and LEDs.
Kogarah Library was the venue for a Microscopic and Marvellous workshop with visitors examining a variety of samples using light microscopes to discover there is often more than meets the eye.
Liverpool Science Fest Quest
Children’s Discovery joined Liverpool Library for a Science Fest Quest delivering a Big Bang Illuminated Geometry workshop and tabletop science encounters and entertained library patrons with Mobius Strip and Slime Science shows.
Miles Franklin Soda Shoppe
Hurstville Library became a discovery space with tabletop science and an old-fashioned soda shoppe for its Play and Explore Day. The Miles Franklin Soda Shoppe was a bespoke hands-on experience with chemistry and food science combining to make the now famous Hurstville Huntsman. To create the signature lemonade spider thirsty visitors had to carefully follow a protocol of citric acid, bicarbonate soda, sugar, water and ice-cream.
You don’t need to have a special week to enjoy STEM-based experiences, they can happen all year round with Children’s Discovery’s suite of engaging and accessible programs.
